Introduction
Considering the extent to which EU policy and regulation impacts Irish business, Ibec - Ireland's national business and employers' federation - maintains a permanent office and delegation in Brussels.
Established since 1972, the year before Ireland joined the then European Economic Community, Ibec Europe is the main representation of the Irish business community to the European Union. We engage with the European Institutions, Member State Governments and the wider European policy community to protect and promote the interests of our 7,500 member companies.
Through our extensive network of contacts, our influential relationships and our highly regarded reputation among key stakeholders, we work to ensure that the interests of Irish business and employers are properly communicated and acknowledged within the EU's decision making process.
Ibec Europe provides our members with strategic advice and important updates through regular events, newsletters and briefing papers. We help Irish business leaders to build alliances in Brussels and we proudly work to elevate the profile and reputation of the Irish business model in European affairs. Our work also supports the EU activities of our 200 colleagues across Ibec's policy units, sector associations and regional offices in Ireland.
Ibec is the only Irish member of BusinessEurope, the leading business, industry and employers' representation at EU level. Joining 40 national federations from 34 countries, we work closely with BusinessEurope to shape Europe's policy agenda and advocate for a competitive and pro-growth environment for Irish and EU enterprise.
Ibec’s EU & Trade Policy Committee frames our priorities. The committee, which meets three times per year in Dublin, brings together representatives of a number of our member companies. The Committee helps inform Ibec’s policy positions and strategies across EU affairs, global trade and wider international issues. We actively encourage all Ibec member companies with a particular interest or stake in European affairs to participate in our committee and to contribute to our activities.
