Introduction

In an increasingly global and competitive environment, Ibec supports its members in developing their business in a range of world markets. Our business networks, policy insights and market intelligence keep businesses informed about export and investment opportunities in the US, Asia, South America and other international markets.

What we do

Ibec supports the negotiation of free trade agreements by the EU, to compliment the multilateral WTO system. Ibec welcomed the recent conclusion of negotiations with Canada and supports the ratification of this agreement.

Ibec engages with domestic and international stakeholders to promote the Irish business position. Our current priorities are:
  • To protect and prepare Ireland for a UK exit from the EU;
  • To support market diversification and open market access in key priority markets;
  • To protect Ireland’s international reputation and promote continued investment by Irish and foreign owned firms

Large emerging economies and new markets in the EU offer substantial trade opportunities. It is vital therefore that the Government, state agencies and the EU Commission continue to work together to open up these important new markets to Irish exports.

How we develop trade policy

Trade and international relations policy is formulated through the Ibec EU and Trade Policy Committee. The Committee comprises a range of stakeholders including Ibec members, government departments and state agencies. Ibec member companies represent a range of sectors of the economy as well as organisations of varying size both large and small.
